turner contemporary –

a new david chipperfield-designed museum will open in margate, kent, in the south of england next week.  the decidedly subdued exterior is based on the forms of fishing sheds, but clad in translucent glass.

the galleries rely heavily on natural light.

russell crotty is there, installing several pieces for their inaugural show “revealed” that combines work by j.m.w.  turner with six contemporary artists.

check out this interview with david chipperfield, who may have replaced renzo piano as my favorite designer of museums…

i wrote about chipperfield’s addition to museum folkwang in essen last year –  https://toddhosfelt.wordpress.com/2010/04/01/newish-museum-architecture/ .

it’s so refreshing to see an architect who’s not  building monuments to ego, but  beautiful spaces for art.
