an object of desire…

i want this table.

the legs are bronze, the top is wood with gold leaf.   the first time i saw one was at a party at an art collector’s home in köln.    i thought the marks in the top were dents –  then realized they’re the footprints of the bird…

this fantastic object was designed by the surrealist artist meret oppenheim in 1973.    oppenheim (born in 1913, died in 1985) is  best known as the creator of the furry teacup in the collection of MoMA.
